Regular readers of the Cvent blog know I'm a fan of centerpieces, or better said, creative centerpieces you can do on a budget. So, when I read my Meetings & Conventions Hot Idea of the Day, I was excited to see it was about just that!
Patricia Hernandez, director of catering at the InterContinental Tampa hotel, uses water jelly crystals as event decor. Used in potting soil to help hydrate plants, these water-absorbing polymers start off as small rock salt-like pieces and grow as they soak up water like a sponge.
Hernandez places the water-soaked cubes, which become almost like jelly, in glasses. The crystals come in different colors, so when she places them together in a glass they blend together like a rainbow. Instant color on your table!
You can buy water jelly crystals and kits at Steve Spangler Science and other online outlets.
