AH&LA Challenges Hotel Venues to Go Green

Nothing like some friendly competition to get event venues to go green! On the heels of the Million Tons of Trash Challenge, the American Hotel and Lodging Association is challenging hoteliers to compete in its Green Guidelines Challenge.

Now through October 1, 2009, hotel proprieties across the country can take on the 11 guidelines, which were released in November 2008 by the association's Green Task Force. Guidelines include forming an environmental committee that is responsible for developing an Environmental Green Plan for energy, water and solid waste use; installing digital thermostats in guest rooms and throughout the hotel; and purchasing Energy Star labeled appliances and equipment.

When participants have completed the guidelines, they can take a short survey about their accomplishments. The property with the most impressive success story based on any of the guidelines will win the green prize package.

Only AH&LA members are eligible for the prize, but all properties are encouraged to participate. Interested hotels can learn more about the challenge at the AH&LA website.
