Are Meeting Planners Concerned About Job Security?

Are you worried about your job security as a meeting planner? According to a recent survey by Successful Meetings and MeetingNews, most planners aren't extremely confident in their position.

When asked about their level of confidence that they would not be laid off, association, corporate and independent planners answered an average 2.71 on a scale of one to five, with one being not confident and five being extremely confident. Association planners felt the most confident at 3.39, while corporate planners and independent planners were more concerned, at 2.12 and 2.62 respectively.

Perhaps the numbers relate a bit to how many people have been laid off already. Almost 22 percent of association planners said their company had laid off meeting planners since October 2008. Nearly 44 percent of corporate planners and 61.5 percent of independent planners said their company has made these lay offs.
