While many properties will be going green as part of the AH&LA Green Guidelines Challenge, Great Wolf Resorts has announced that it has already achieved Green Seal Silver Certification for the lodging portion of its 12 resorts. It is the country's first and only national hotel chain to have all U.S. properties do this.
"We believe green tourism is the most important travel trend of our lifetime, and we wanted to do the right thing by taking a leadership position on this," Great Wolf Resorts CEO Kim Schaefer said in a statement. "It's nice to be
recognized as the first national hotel chain to achieve Green Seal certification, yet more importantly, it's gratifying to know we're doing our part to create a sustainable tourism product for lots of families and generations to come."
Great Wolf Lodge plans to continue its green efforts with Project Great Wolf in order to green the entire operation. Initiatives include guest linen recycling; energy efficient lighting; the use of Energy Star appliances; and the use of environmentally sensitive products such as low VOC paint and biodegradable dishwashing and laundry detergents.
