How Green is Going Mainstream

Green FieldWe already blogged a little bit about the Ernst & Young white paper, "Top 10 Thoughts for the Hospitality Industry." In light of a recent post on incorporating green policies to your events, I had to point out that number 7 on this list relates to just that.

The paper points out that green building is going mainstream, as LEED-certification projects are occurring at properties across price levels and affiliation. Plus, the U.S. Green Building Council and the American Hotel and Lodging Association is releasing a dedicated certification for hotel projects by the end of 2009, so standardization may become easier.

Some hotels are creating entire brands around the concept of eco-friendliness—have you seen Starwood's element hotels? Many properties are going above and beyond simply green design, offering environmentally conscious transportation, organic meals and more.

Just more proof that "greening" is set to become the norm.
