Majority of Mexico Travelers Feel Safe to Return, Survey Says

We recently blogged about CEO Mexico's email assuring meeting planners that Mexico is a safe location for visitors and events. A recent consumer survey by the Mark Travel Corporation (parent company of Funjet Vacations) suggests the same.

Conducted from March 6-15, 2009, the survey received over 900 responses from travelers who vacationed in Mexico between October 2008 and March 2009. About 97 percent of those surveyed indicated that they would return to Mexico for another vacation. About 90 percent agreed to the statement "I felt safe and secure." Interestingly, of those who agreed to this statement, more respondents (92 percent) had traveled to Mexico in 2009 than those who traveled in 2008 (88 percent).

The majority of survey respondents vacationed in Cancun/Riviera Maya, about 1,300 miles from the nearest U.S.-Mexico border towns that have been coming up in the news recently. Other popular destinations cited by respondents were at least 375 miles away from these towns.
