Non-Profits See Drop in Donations in 2008

We blogged a while back about how you can make donations easier by letting guests donate to your cause or organization as they register for events. Providing more avenues for accepting donations and going about it in a new way are going to be critical for non-profits, especially as fewer than half of America's charities raised more money in 2008 than in 2007.

According to the Association of Fundraising Professionals, 46 percent of organizations raised more money last year, making it the biggest low in the survey's eight-year history. For 2009, 28 percent of charities surveyed think they will raise more money this year over last year. Again, this marks the lowest level of optimism since the survey began.

This is definitely disappointing to hear, seeing as how so many organizations doing good work rely on donation funds to survive. Some factors are out of your control (the economy, the income of your donors, etc.), but you aren't completely at a loss. Even small changes like making donations easier by taking them online can help.
