Some of you may be familiar with the popular TODAY show segment, "Where in the World is Matt Lauer?" In this annual event, host Lauer travels to some of the world's most exotic locations. In the past, he has visited the Taj Mahal and the pyramids in Egypt.
This year, however, Lauer's tour has been postponed due to the economy. After soliciting viewer suggestions as to where Lauer should go, TODAY received an overwhelming response that he stay at home and look at local destinations.
So, TODAY has instead decided to run a four-day series named "TODAY Takes a Vacation." Lauer, along with co-anchors Meredith Viera, Al Roker and Ann Curry, will explore the United States and "partake in accessible vacation activities" at each destination, TODAY said. The series begins Monday, May 4.
What do you think about the replacement of Lauer's world tour? Does scrapping plans to travel the world cast travel in a bad light, or does it help reassure the public that you can, in fact, travel on any budget?
