As budgets get tighter, planners are looking for more ways to cut costs without sacrificing quality. One popular way
to do this is to switch from large event destinations to smaller event destinations. Meetings West magazine
had a few recommendations for inexpensive yet still fabulous destinations.
If you're looking to go coastal, Ventura, California, offers fun in the sun at a low cost. Ventura, with its waterfront venues and ocean view hotel rooms, can offer lodging to groups for only about $130 per night—and even less during off season.
Alternately, meeting planners can still treat their attendees to a relaxing mountainside adventure without paying for a pricey, high-end ski resort. Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, at the base of the Rocky Mountains, is a spectacular yet generally untapped mountain retreat. Two ski resorts are less than an hour away, while the city itself is also home to boutique shopping, fine dining, several hiking and biking trails and a lake that's perfect for dinner cruising. Plus, its hotel rates often average an affordable $100.
Finally, if you've been pining for the mild temperatures and indulgent atmosphere of desert towns such as Scottsdale, locations such as Moab, Utah, may be just the thing. Meeting groups can enjoy outings to nearby national parks and ATV tours of the memorable scenery. Perhaps the biggest draw for group activities may be the golf, as first-class courses can be found in Moab for under $40.
