Green Your Meeting Space

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 by Cvent Staff
TreeEvent planners are turning green by starting up new practices that are good for the environment. Is a more socially-aware event in your future?  Here are some of the more popular ways to make your meeting rooms more eco-friendly:

• Use both sides of your printed meeting materials and print on recycled paper when available. Better yet, consider nixing the handouts altogether and going completely electronic with your materials. Utilize web-based applications to distribute reference material to your attendees beforehand, then make full use of programs like Microsoft PowerPoint.

Use real dinnerware instead of disposables. Bulk beverage and snack dispensers can also eliminate additional packaging waste.

• Provide recycling containers for your attendees to use, and offer to take any materials or swag they don’t want off of their hands. Arrange for these items to be disposed of properly or donated to charity.

Many venues offer a complete “green” package, including energy-saving lighting and carbon offsetting programs. By choosing meeting rooms that are flexible when you need it, you can guarantee your message of environmental accountability will ring clear with your guests.
