The hospitality industry, from hotel executives to investors to developers, is split on whether or not the economy is headed for an upswing in 2009.
According to a survey of over 3,000 past and current delegates of the Americas Lodging Investment Summit, 53 percent of respondents feel the economic situation for the hotel industry will turn around in 2009. Such a turn around would likely occur in the third or fourth quarter, according to the survey respondents.
Less than half of respondents (47 percent) think the industry will continue to struggle at least until 2010. Still, 65 percent said they feel that the federal government needs to pass more economic stimulus measures to help the ailing economy.
How do you think the hotel industry will fare in 2009? Are you already noticing the difference a year makes as you source and book meeting hotels for events?
