Toronto Venue Spotlight: Toronto Congress Centre North

Thursday, November 13, 2008 by Cvent Staff
Already one of the largest trade facilities in North America, the Toronto Congress Centre (TCC) in 2006 decided to aim even higher with the construction of the Toronto Congress Centre North. Once a derelict building on the north side of TCC's property, TCC North transformed into a 500,000-square-foot, state-of-the-are meeting space for events in Toronto. Thanks to this addition, TCC is now one of the three largest privately-owned convention facilities in North America.

What else makes TCC North so special? That would be its astounding commitment to sustainability. From its inception, TCC North was set to be an environmentally friendly place to meet. Its "Zero Waste" construction aimed to reuse up to 95 percent of existing materials, while, when needed, only local building materials were used in order to reduce the carbon footprint.

Among its many green efforts, TCC North uses energy efficient lighting; ultra-high efficiency heating and cooling systems, which use no CFCs or HCFCs; eco-friendly cleaning materials; and low flow, low flush plumbing. Even the center itself is green—literally—with a gorgeous lobby decorated by live trees and native Canadian greenery.

TCC North is just as committed to being a top-notch meeting venue as it is to the environment. Included in its exhibit space are 40 meeting rooms and a spacious 25,000-square-foot ballroom. The Toronto Congress Centre as a whole is also conveniently located 15 minutes from downtown and within walking or short driving distance of over 10,000 well-appointed hotel rooms.

Combining first-class facilities and a progressive, green outlook toward meetings, it's no surprise that this Toronto convention facility is garnering global acclaim, including a nomination for a Brownie award from the Canadian Urban Institute. Ready to host events in Toronto, TCC North's exhibit hall was completed in January 2008, and its lobby and cafe are set to open soon.
