American Thanksgiving Celebrations Around the World

American Chamber of Commerce DenmarkHope everyone had a great Thanksgiving yesterday.

The Cvent Event Blog has previously discussed the fact that harvest celebrations are a part of cultures around the world. (The first American Thanksgiving was, in fact, a 3 day-harvest celebration in Plymouth Colony, an area that is now a part of Massachusetts in 1621.)

This week, however, from Hong Kong to Ireland to Denmark, branches of American companies, hotels, universities, US embassies, and professional associations have also been joining in the Thanksgiving celebrations.

Denmark

On Sunday, for example, in the freshly renovated function rooms at the Copenhagen Marriott, the Microsoft Development Center sponsored AmChamDenmark's 13th annual Family Thanksgiving Dinner.

Ambassador Gifford welcomed the group that enjoyed the dinner prepared by Chef Jonas Bak and his team. The dinner had all of the traditional Thanksgiving trimmings as well as bean casserole, apple crisp, and cheesecake. Soft drinks and water were provided by Coca Cola.

Competitions used 2 newly released Microsoft Xbox One Kinect game consoles. Xbox One entertained teens and pre-teens with FIFA 15 contests. Ronald McDonald from McDonald's made a guest appearance.

A raffle was held for prizes including round trip tickets to New York City, overnight stays at the Marriott, Motorola walkie-talkies, a Microsoft Xbox One, an iPad Mini from Aspire Mobility, and a Dell Venue Tablet.

Ireland

Yester, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Dublin, the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland will hold its annual Thanksgiving lunch. This is how they celebrated last year.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
