Luxury resorts and 5 Star hotels are wonderful but, sometimes, more affordable accommodation will suffice. For example, if you want to extend your time to explore a destination after business trips or corporate events, it might make sense to transfer to a clean, affordable property near the beach. After all, do you really want to blow every penny you've just earned for a high-end luxury hotel?
I've been to Barbados on business trips and in-transit to and from Dominica for a client engagement. Last week, about 20 minutes away from the airport in the Garrison Historical area, I discovered some affordable beach hotels that are perfect for business travel.
I've stayed here a couple of times. A beautiful beach, a lagoon pool, excellent dining on property (including a Polynesian Restaurant) and within walking distance, and a small vendor's market next door, make this property a great pick for business travelers. Rooms are a good size and bright. If you want to unwind after a few days of hard work, there is even a spa
Meeting planners will be pleased that the hotel has 6,500 square feet. of meeting space. High speed Internet and video conferencing facilities are available. Conference planners, don't rule this property out for conferences, especially if you need to stretch your budget. and facilities for special event. The second time I stayed here, Caribbean filmmakers were attending a conference at this hotel. There were also facilities for special events.
Rates start at just under US$200 during off-season and just over US$200 a night during shoulder and high seasons. Even the Ocean view rooms start at around US$268. If you return for a short holiday, you can always upgrade to a luxury suite with Jacuzzi or a penthouse.
Coconut Court is situated on a nice stretch of beach with shade provided by mature coconut trees. There is a reef that breaks the waves, creating a calm area for swimming as well as an opportunity for snorkeling. There are numerous chaise lounges for guests of the hotel and Courtyard by Marriott across the road. The food at the Seagrape Beach Bar is excellent and not your standard beach bar fare. There is a good variety of local and international dishes. The Blue Room Sports Bar & Grill has themed buffets a couple of times a week. Rates are very reasonable and start from under US$100 per night including a small continental breakfast.
This new hotel isn't on the beach but beach access is a comfortable 4 - 5 minute walk just across the road at Coconut Court Beach Hotel. Then it's down the steps to the beach. If you're like me, you'll appreciate the exercise. Just show your room key for full access. Pick up a beach towel at the swimming pool before heading over to the beach.
Rooms are huge and some have balconies. Laundry is outsourced so be sure to send items out early in the morning if you require same day service.
There are venues for business meetings. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. Near the lobby, there are even terminals where you can print your boarding pass. In the dining area, high tables have been provided that are large enough for laptops. The only area for improvement is that there isn't much variety on the menu. Dining options aren't far away. TGI Fridays is on the other side of the parking lots and, across the road at Coconut Court Beach Hotel there is Seagrape Beach Bar and The Blue Room Sports Bar & Grill. Fabulous restaurants like Brown Sugar, Tapas and Champers are about 5 minutes away by taxi.
When it's time to relax, there is a spa. If you want to curl up with a book, there are lounges tucked away and close to the lobby.
Coral Mist Beach Hotel
