Now more than ever, companies are in search of affordable options to stretch their budgets for business meetings, conferences and corporate events. In a future blog, we will look at some of the catering services available on university campuses. Today, our focus is on event and meeting facilities on university and college campuses.
Corporate Event Facilities
A number of universities and colleges provide a full suite of services and facilities that are suitable for corporate events. For example, in downtown Toronto, the Ted Rogers school of Management, has an auditorium, large breakout rooms, and full catering services.. ACTRA Toronto has been holding its member conferences there for a number of years. Prior to that, this event was hosted at University of Toronto's Victoria College. Both locations are worth exploring by the corporate sector.
Conference facilities are available at a number of universities. For example, my Alma mater, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has the I Hotel and Conference Centre at the university's Research Park. Between 1948 and 2003, IVCF held its large tri-annual student missionary conference that still bears the name "Urbana" on the UIUC campus.
Special Event Venues
Greenhouses, botanical gardens and arboretums provide a unique setting for a range of events. The Morris Arboretum at the University of Pennsylvania and the Arboretum at The University of Guelph in Ontario are available for rental. The State Botanical Garden of the University of Georgia has 5 special event venues. The University of Michigan offers meeting and event facilities at Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum.
Companies looking for strategies to trim meeting and event budgets will be pleasantly surprised by the range of options available when they head back to school.
