November has been designated as Caribbean Tourism Month by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO). Throughout November, a number of live and virtual events are showcasing Caribbean tourism.
CTO members have also organized their own local Caribbean Tourism Month Celebrations.
CTO has 30 member countries from the English, Spanish, French, and Dutch islands and territories in the Caribbean. By 2017, CTO aims to position the Caribbean as an ideal destination offering a warm climate throughout the year and a sustainable tourism leader under the banner "One Sea, One Voice, One Caribbean".
CTO is also exploring initiatives to attract more visitors to the Caribbean from BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China).
A few weeks before Caribbean Tourism Month, the annual State of the Industry Conference(SOTIC) took place. Members gathered in Martinique for SOTIC 2013 from 16th October 16 - 18, 2013. Every year, Caribbean tourism leaders gather to share best practices and explore issues that are relevant to the industry and generate solutions. There was discussion of training and development practices, sustainability initiatives, menu adjustments, and marketing.
So far, for Caribbean Tourism Month, live events have included CTO UK Industry Insights, participation in the World Trade Mart (WTM) in London from November 4 - 7 and the CTO Caribbean Street Party at World Trade Mart on November 6th.
Throughout Caribbean Tourism Month, CTO is promoting Brand Caribbean. and highlighting the diverse cultures and cuisine throughout the Caribbean. It is showcasing the range of activities available to visitors whether they are interested in golf, music festivals, water sports, equestrian events, or eco-tourism adventures.
Hugh Riley, CTO Secretary General has announced that, today (November 8, 2013), starting at 11 AM ECT, a 2 hour inaugural tweet chat will launch #OneVoice as the official hashtag for the Caribbean tourism industry. It will provide Twitter members with an opportunity to interact with and get immediate answers from CTO leaders and industry partners. To participate, use the hashtag and follow @ctotourism on Twitter.
Other virtual events will include a Facebook marathon during which member countries will journal throughout the month.
