In Delivering Value for Canada’s Tourism Businesses Through Innovation and Efficiency, the 2012 annual report for the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC), the pivotal role of the Canadian meetings and events industry was highlighted. Specifically, the meetings and conventions industry attracts about 2 million annual visitors to Canada generating $1.8 billion dollars.
Over the next few weeks, there will be a number of opportunities for event planners and hospitality industry professionals in Canada to connect in Toronto, network, learn and celebrate the industry's contributions and success.
Canadian Special Events Expo14 #CSEEXPO14 (March 25 - 27, 2014)
First, the kick off for Canadian Special Events Expo14 (CSE Expo14) will take place with an opening night party at Sony Centre for the Performing Arts on March 25th from 5:00 - 8:00. The next morning, a full day devoted to event design will begin with IdeaFest, exploring the hottest event and entertainment trends of 2014. The venue will be Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Learning sessions will include:
- 8:30 Design Trends 14 by Bryan Bell, Decor & More Inc.
- 9:50 Game On Engagement Through Gamification for Events by Jon Garner of Cvent.
- 10:10 Money Matters, 3 Approaches to Charging For Event Services by Sebastien David and Nicholas Olivier Caron of Montreal's Senik Events
I'll be delivering a 15-minute session at 10:45 called What Does THAT Mean? A Crash Course in the Lingo and Isms of the Event Tech World, with a focus on social media. The Trade Show Floor will open right after that at 11:00. The day will end with the Readers Choice Awards Ceremony that will begin at 4:45.
On March 27 from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM, Appstravaganza, co-sponsored by Cvent at the Hyatt Regency Hotel will demystify the world of apps.
CSE Expo14 will end with 5:30 -11:30 – Star Awards Gala Ceremony & Dinner Party at Atlantis.
Canada MeetWeek #CMWeek (April 7 - 11)
Canada Meet Week will begin The Storys Building with "The ZONE," a celebration of the success of the industry hosted by Hosted by the Business Events Industry Coalition of Canada (BEICC), a coalition of Canadian event industry associations.
From April 8-9, Ignite Business Expo iBE, the annual innovative line-up of exhibits and Marquee speakers, will return to the Direct Energy Centre at Exhibition Place.
On April 8th from 6:00 - 10:00, the Site Canada - Spring Social 2014 will take place at The Fermenting Cellar, a fashionable venue in Toronto's Distillery District.
The next morning, ISES Toronto will present the CanSPEP Breakfast at Ignite Business Expo.
On April 10th, MPI Chapters across Canada will celebrate National Meetings Industry Day. This year's theme is IMPACT of Meetings: The Value. The Power. From Atlantic Canada to British Columbia, networking events, luncheons and educational workshops will underscore the value of Canada's meetings industry and its contribution to the Canadian economy and the community.
