Event Decor: 5 Finishing Touches for Holiday Events

Cookie and gingerbread villageWhen decorating venues for Christmas events, it's often the small details that can have the biggest impact. A carefully placed decoration on a table, under the tree, or even in a corner, can add special magic to events.

Fortunately, event planners don't have to blow their budgets to add these simple, finishing touches to holiday event decor.

Edible Decor

The Cvent Event Blog has previously discussed the whimsical touch that miniature villages add to holiday decor. This miniature village from Disneyland in California puts a new spin on a traditional favorite. It's made entirely of gingerbread houses, cookies, cotton candy, cake, icing, gumdrops, lollipops, and candy canes.

Guests can enjoy the cookies and bite-sized treats and the gingerbread houses can be auctioned off to raise money for charity.

Masks

In New Orleans during the festive season, masks are often used for decorations. Event planners everywhere can add a touch of drama and the element of surprise to traditional decorations by adding masks.

Toys

Toy CarouselIncorporate miniature musical instruments, dolls, puppets, marionettes, ballerinas, and, of course, train sets into tablescapes and centerpieces. They can also be placed under the tree. For variety, use vintage toys.

At a recent event, many guests commented on the miniature carousel under the tree that rotated and played music. A music box would have a similar impact.

Animations

Animations are always popular and they are available in all sizes and at a variety of price points.

This one from Frontgate plays 25 songs. It lights up and spins to delight guests of all ages. The company also has a K. Kringle's Animated Department Store and a variety of decorations that go on special during the weeks before the holidays.

Outdoor Lights

Star Shower or Spectrum Laser Lights bathe the outside of an event venue with dazzling lights, stars, and special effects. They are time savers as they eliminate the need to spend hours stringing of outdoor lights.

3D Projection Mapping

Finally, even if you don't have the budget for full 3D projection mapping, tools are coming on the market that come close to creating these special effects at an affordable price. For big budget events, opt for Christie/Coolux Pandoras Box Media Server. For smaller budgets, Digital Press Works does it affordably.

Come close with Virtual Santa, a really cost-effective option from Outrageous Media.
