Iceland - Breaking the Ice for Incentive Travel

Glacier Feast, IcelandI've been reflecting on an enlightening conversation with Thordis Palsdottir, Sales Director at Grand Hotel Reykjavik during M&I Forums a couple of months ago. It was a real eye opener. I started by asking her about safety and that troublesome volcano. She responded, "I've lived in Iceland all my life, surrounded by volcanoes, geysers and glaciers. I'm based 30 minutes from Eyjafjallajokull. Do you know that until I saw it on the news, I wasn't aware that Eyjafjallajokull had erupted?"

For companies interested in Iceland, there are many reasons to consider the island-nation as a destination for incentive travel, conferences and business meetings. For one thing, glaciers, ice fields, mountains and hot springs create a stunning landscape.

Iceland offers some of the world's most unique natural phenomenon (i.e. Aurora Borealis, the Midnight Sun, Polar Night) and a range of exhilarating activities for groups to enjoy throughout the year.

Iceland is well on the road to economic recovery and this has been without any bailouts. The lower value of Iceland's Krona (60% less than pre-2008 recession levels) means that Canadian, US and European companies can stretch their event and conference budgets.

Flight time from New York to Reykjavik is under 6 hours. It doesn't take any longer to fly  from Toronto to Iceland than it does to travel to the Caribbean (4 1/2 hours).

Great Places to Stay and Meet in Iceland
