Last week, IMEX celebrated its 10th anniversary with the opening of IMEX Frankfurt 2012. Today, I'll bring you up to speed with highlights from IMEX 12 and the best that IMEX had to offer.
Hosted Buyers: This year, there were 4,000 hosted buyers at IMEX Frankfurt. Hosted buyers are provided with accommodations, airfare and transfers to the hotel. Through their diaries, hosted buyers, who agree to a minimum of four appointments a day, schedule appointments with exhibitors. There is a lounge where hosted buyers print their badges and diaries, take breaks, and access the complimentary Wi-Fi through laptops, smart phones or iPads. There were even complimentary 15-minute massages to provide comfort for sore shoulders and backs.
Social Media: The IMEX Social Media team @IMEXSocialTeam did an excellent job of sharing IMEX through social media. They roamed the trade show floor, interacted with exhibitors, hosted buyers, and other attendees. They provided live Twitter reports, retweeted #IMEX12 tweets and shared blogs about the show. IMEX TV conducted interviews and posted interviews and daily highlight videos on the IMEX YouTube Channel. The IMEX Blog highlighted what was hot on the trade show floor.
Technology: Wi-Fi was accessible throughout the trade show floor. A table for laptops and two banks of computers made it easy for attendees to pick up email and access social media sites, and there was also a sponsored iPad Lounge.
At the Opening Ceremony, Ray Bloom, IMEX Group Chairman, highlighted the need for the industry to re-position itself as an "engine for economic growth" in order to "rise above" the effects of short-term economic cycles.

If you're considering attending IMEX Frankfurt or IMEX America, it's important to be clear about your objectives. If you can succinctly explain your business model and the type of resources you require, exhibitors can be very helpful in providing you with targeted information. Exhibitors will also be able to suggest other suppliers that are a good fit.
