If you're under the impression that Lego is just for kids, think again. I discovered this when I was the Management Development Specialist at Bell Mobility, a Toronto-based wireless communications firm. At the time, the company had 2 floors of engineers and many of them had structures that they had created from Lego on display in their work area. Taking my cue from this, I started to place Lego blocks and kits on the table as an energizer during training and team building sessions. It was an instant hit.
Lego challenges are helpful whenever event and meeting planners need to create a building or construction theme. For example, if a company is experiencing rapid growth or undergoing a re-organization, a construction theme is a perfect fit. Fortunately, help is here in the form of Lego-themed venues and attractions around the world.
Legoland California Resort
On April 5, 2013, Legoland California Resort, a brand-new, 250-room Lego-themed resort will open its doors in Carlsbad. Meeting planners will be pleased to find 30,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor space for up to 500 guests. Guests rooms will feature decorations that fit one of 3 themes, Adventure, Pirate and Kingdom. For corporate events at which families are welcome, the bunk beds and trundle beds will be a welcome.
The resort will also have junior concierges - that's right, children with an understanding of the needs of young guests. Plus, hotel guests will have access to the 128-acre LEGOLAND theme park before it opens for the general public.
Other Legoland theme parks are located in Florida, Denmark, Germany and Malaysia. There is also a LEGOLAND Resort in Windsor (UK).
