Now that winter destinations in North America, Europe and Asia are blanketed in snow, companies where a lot of skiers and snowboarders work are fine-tuning their plans for winter retreats and incentives. Luxury Igloo resorts are an opportunity to wow winter enthusiasts. Today we'll look at a few options.
An eco-luxury hotel high in the Swiss alps, whitepod is a cluster of 15 pods that provide breathtaking views of the Alps and all of the comforts of a luxury hotel. A pod is a 40-square meter geodesic dome. All pods have a king-sized bed, a bathroom with toilet and shower, and a wood-burning stove. There is a mezzanine with 1 or 2 extra beds for children or teens, and a terrace with a table and 2 chairs.
Deluxe pods have complimentary Wi-Fi 24/7, satellite TV, Nespresso coffee makers with an unlimited supply of free capsules, and a minibar with complimentary soft drinks. Continental breakfast is delivered to deluxe pods daily. In-pod massage is available. Spa treatments are offered at Le Spa.
In the center of the cluster of pods, there is a large Pod-House with meeting facilities for 17. There is Wi-Fi, a 65-inch HD interactive touch screen system, laptop, and laser color printer.
Buffet breakfast is served at the Pod House and working lunches are available upon request. Traditional Alpine lunches and dinners (including a variety of fondues) are available on-property at Chalet Les Cerniers. Picnic lunches can be ordered.
Afternoon tea with fresh fruit and homemade cakes and pastries is served at the Pod House daily.
The winter season runs from mid December 2014 to early April. There are 25 kilometers of snowshoe trails and ski slopes with private lifts on property. Activities available on-site include igloo construction competitions, sledding competitions, and snowshoeing competitions. Winter sports enthusiasts who have seen it all will jump at the opportunity to try dog hiking which is snow shoeing while attached by harness to a sled dog.
Iglu-Dorf Igloo Villages (Switzerland and Andorra)
This season, Iglu-Dorf unveiled the 7th location in the sparkling collection of igloo resorts that it freshly re-builds every year: Bernese Oberland, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Gstaad. This resort features an outdoor whirlpool.
Igloo configurations include 6-bed igloos for corporate teams and families, Iglu suites with private bathrooms and whirlpools, and Hot-Iglus made out of honeycombed tents with ovens. The walls of the snow igloos are beautifully decorated with sculptures and designs carved directly into the walls. Ice and snow sculptures can be found throughout the villages.
Each resort has a public whirlpool. Davos and Gstaad also have saunas. Each resort has a mountain restaurant integrated into the resort. Fondue, mull wine and other Alpine delights are served. Igloo guides provide supervised activities.
In addition to the Zugspitze location the Cvent Event Blog previously profiled in Incentive Destinations: Spotlight on Zugspitze, Germany, there are Iglu-Dorf Igloo Villages in Zermatt, Davos, Gstaad, Engelberg, and Andorra (in the Pyrenees).
