The Middle East is one of the fastest growing areas in the world. Destinations all over the region are upgrading their infrastructure and boosting their bench strength in the travel and tourism industry. It is not surprising that major hotel brands have significant plans for expansion in the region.
United Arab Emirates
Four Seasons has unveiled plans for a hotel on Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi and St. Regis Abu Dhabi will open on the Corniche August 15, 2013.
Under construction in Dubai is the 237-room Four Seasons Resort on Jumeirah Beach, scheduled to open in Q4, 2014. This beachfront property will have 5 function rooms and a 600-square-meter ballroom.
JW Marriott Marquis Dubai, the world's tallest hotel, had a star-studded opening in February.
Oman is expanding its guest room inventory by 2,000. Azaiba Hotel, a 5 Star hotel is scheduled to open in the summer of 2013. Alila Jabal Akhdar, which is on track to open in December 2013, will offer spectacular views of the Jabal Akhdar mountains. (Four Seasons has announced plans to open a property in Muscat.)
Four Seasons Hotel is currently under construction in Jeddah and Four Seasons Hotel Riyadh has recently undergone extensive renovations.
The 318-room Renaissance Bahrain is scheduled to open later this year on Amwaj Island. Four Seasons Bahrain Bay is taking shape for an opening in the summer of 2014.
Doha will experience a significant increase in the number of guest rooms with Shangri-La, Mandarin Oriental, and Four Seasons announcing plans to open new properties in 2014. St. Regis Doha opened recently.
