Inspiration for corporate events can come from many sources. Some of the best ideas come from clients.
For example, when one of my corporate clients recently took a group to Jamaica, some members of the party wanted to explore Jamaica from the back of a motorcycle. We found an option that was a good fit and requested some customization. I'll share more in a moment.
Even if your group is not athletic, motorcycle events run the gamut from off-road adventures to grand prix.
Selecting Motorcycle Adventures
When selecting a supplier for motorcycling or any other rugged adventures:
- Gauge your group's level of physical fitness and determine if a spectator or rugged adventure is the best fit.
Always select a licensed provider.
Licensing will ensure that motorcycles are in good repair and guides are trained. Tourist board or convention bureaus can point you in the right direction.
Ensure that the supplier has enough insurance coverage in place.
Your DMC can verify that insurance meets international standards.
Choose a flexible supplier who will customize the experience and adjust routes based on the interests of the riders.
My group was given the option of going to the beach, diving off a cliff and exploring caves but they preferred to spend more time off-the beaten track exploring the countryside and visiting local communities.
- Suggest medical travel insurance for anyone participating in a rugged adventure.
- Have clients sign waivers.
- Make helmets mandatory.
- Remind clients to abstain from alcohol.
- Brief riders about local laws and regulations.
- Provide guides if riders are going off the beaten track.
Types of Motorcycle Adventures
Grand Prix Motorcycling
MotoGP Grand Prix events take place in 17 countries including the US, Germany, The Netherlands, Qatar, Malaysia, Japan and Australia. Corporate teams can book seating in VIP tents. At some tracks, arrangements can be (made well in advance) for driving experiences.
Motocross and Supercross Events
Motocross takes place on 5 continents on enclosed, off-road circuits. Supercross uses specially constructed dirt courses. VIP club passes including preferred seating and gourmet meals are available at many events. The 2013 FIM Grand Prix Motocross World Championship will be in Qatar.
Closed Course Motorcycling
Rider training followed by obstacle courses and other challenges can provide a full or half day of recreation for corporate groups. Courses are located around the world for example at Atlanta Motorsports Park, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, the Autodrome in Dubai and Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

Off Road Adventures
Off road adventures take drivers into natural settings or to local communities. They are popular in Europe and available as far away as Vietnam, Malaysia and Mongolia. Dune riding is available in Dubai.
So what did my clients do in Jamaica? They headed off with a guide. They visited a small village, spent time at a local school, enjoyed authentic Jamaican cuisine for lunch, toured a plantation, learned about local plants and vegetables from a Rastafarian gardener and took in the breathtaking views from a lighthouse. They ended their day relaxing and watching cliff divers during sunset at Rick's Cafe.
When the group returned to Canada, those who had selected this adventure indicated it was the highlight of their trip, an unforgettable adventure worthy of the bucket list and a chance to explore the real Jamaica.
