Port Hope, Ontario - A Magical Town for the Festive Season

Port Hope, Ontario at Christmas

The Cvent Blog has profiled a number of Canadian towns that provide a memorable setting for corporate events in the weeks before Christmas. Meeting and event planners can add Port Hope, an enchanting Victorian village on Lake Ontario, to the list.

Port Hope has the distinction of being the town with the "Best Preserved Main Street in Ontario". Incorporated in 1834 as the Town of Port Hope, it is located 200 Km East of Toronto. The best way to get there is in Business Class aboard VIA Rail from Toronto.

Major attractions in Port Hope include the Canadian Fire Fighters Museum, Capitol Theatre, and the Northumberland Rock and Roll Experience.

Port Hope has a number of galleries including Art Gallery Of Northumberland and Ganaraska Art. Outdoor adventures include geocaching, tree top trekking, and ziplining at Ganaraska Forest Centre, and horse riding at Trickle Creek Farms.

By the on the last Friday in November, in time for the annual Candlelight Walk, Port Hope is transformed into the perfect setting for "an olde tyme Christmas". Residents and visitors are invited to bring their lanterns, sing carols, and stroll down the main street to Memorial Park. When the crowd has assembled, the lights are turned on for the festive season.

To warm up, head to The Candlelight Christmas General Store for refreshments. The holiday shopping season officially begins with a Moonlight Sale.

The next day, during the Santa Claus parade, which has taken place every year since 1937, donations are collected for the Fare Share Food Bank. Now that's a town with spirit.

Event venues include Port Hope Golf & Country Club and Trattoria Gusto. Accommodation is available at Comfort Inn - Port Hope with 89 guest rooms and two meeting rooms. Saint Anne's Spa with 29 guest rooms, 8 spa cottages, and three meeting rooms, is just 19 minutes away in Grafton.
