It isn't easy to be away from home during the Christmas season but sometimes business beckons and there's no other option. I've experienced this a couple of times and it's always reassuring to find touches of the festive season in places you may not expect.
The good news is that, for event planners, the range of destinations for pre-Christmas meetings is much broader than one would thing.
Along Singapore's fashionable Orchard Road, hotels and retail outlets deliver the "wow factor" as festivals and holidays unfold throughout the year. At Christmas, all the stops are pulled out with a stunning results.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
United Arab Emirates has some of the most elaborate decorations on the planet.
Meydan Hotel has a huge full-sized gingerbread house. Dubai Mall held the record for the world's tallest Christmas tree until 2 years ago. Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi still holds the record for the world's most expensive Christmas tree, valued at US$11 million.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
A few years ago, I was facilitating a workshop in Kuala Lumpur. A magical transformation took place on December 1st. Overnight, hotels, and malls came alive with Christmas decorations. Grand Millennium had a life-sized gingerbread house. The Pavilion Mall in the Golden Triangle had this Christmas Wonderful.
At 1:40 something truly meaningful for me happened. See if you can spot it. I'll confirm it in the comments when someone guesses correctly:
In unexpected places on the other side of the world, event planners can provide an unforgettable experience and still have corporate teams home in time to spend Christmas with family.
