When one thinks of The Netherlands in the spring, images of windmills, tree lined canals and tulips come to mind. It's truly a beautiful time of year and there are a number of spring festivals and events that make this time of year a great choice for corporate groups.
Spring Flower Show
In Keukenhof Gardens near Lisse, some of Holland's most beautiful flowers are on display from March 21 - May 20th. In addition to the crocuses and tulips that bloom in the gardens at this time of year, over 100,000 additional tulips and other bulb flowers are on display.
In a tradition that dates back to 1947, on the 3rd Saturday of April, over 20 floats and decorated cars make their way along the 40-kilometer route from Noordwijk to Haarlem. The floats remain on display until Sunday evening.
Queen's Day Amsterdam
On April 30th, Queens Day takes place accompanied by parades on the streets and along the canals, street fairs and fireworks. People dress in orange, carry orange banners and even wear orange wigs. The festivities kick off with Koninginnenacht, an all-night party takes place every year on the night before Queen's Day.
(2013 will be special because Queen Beatrix is abdicating and Willem-Alexander will be inaugurated as the new King.)
Music and Arts Festivals
In June, a number of music and arts festivals take place including the:
- 3-week Hague Festival of music
- Holland Arts Festival from June 1-26 in Amsterdam
- Amsterdam Roots Festival featuring world music and cuisine from every corner of the globe.
