As the result of a decision to explore art that began during my last trip to Paris, I've learned about a number of art venues in Toronto that are perfect for special and corporate events.
Recently, I spent the afternoon exploring The Great Upheaval: Masterpieces from the Guggenheim Collection, 1910-1918 at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), which was on display until March 2. Groups can take in traveling exhibits like these, and the AGO's permanent collection with 73,000 pieces of Canadian, European, African and contemporary art.
And they can meet at AGO; function spaces include Baillie Court, the Weston Family Learning Centre with meeting rooms for up to 80 people, and Jackman Hall Meeting Space, a theater with a capacity of 200. Team building and after hours tours can be arranged in the galleries.
Private dining can also be arranged at FRANK, the AGO's signature restaurant, and CafeAGO.
Royal Ontario Museum
Located in Toronto's fashionable Yorkville district, galleries at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) include the Prince Takamado Gallery of Japan, the Eaton Gallery of Rome, the Galleries of Africa (currently exhibiting artifacts from the Nubian Kingdom of Kush), and the Gallery of Chinese Architecture with the largest collection of Chinese architectural artifacts outside mainland China.
Special programs for corporate groups here include Passport to the World, a scavenger hunt for groups of 50 or more and the ROM Hunt, a self-guided scavenger hunt for smaller groups.
Dignitaries and royalty (e.g. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Prince Andrew, Princess Takamado of Japan) have toured the gallery and attended galas, banquets and concerts hosted by major corporations and tourist boards at the ROM. For example, the ROM has been used for Japanese Noh Theater and Thailand Tourism events.
The 3 function spaces include Bronfman Hall, Eaton Theater, and the Glass Hall. Special weekday, daytime rentals make the ROM an ideal venue for business meetings, product launches, and corporate events.
