Classroom style, theater style and half-rounds. These are standard room layouts for meetings and corporate events. With some imagination, however, many other options are possible.
Start with your theme, brainstorm to identify shapes that reflect it and design the room layout based on one of these shapes. Here are some basic layouts to inspire you:
This set-up is ideal for dinner theater or interactive entertainment. Tables and chairs are placed in the area in the centre of the U that is normally used for the dance floor.
The periphery is used for entertainment and buffet or serving tables. This set-up works equally well for indoor and outdoor events.
This configuration is often used for meetings but it can work just a well for galas and dinner events. The center is used for a dance floor. The open side of the "U" can be a platform or an area for the band and entertainers.
This time lapse shows an interesting variation on a familiar configuration.
Drawing inspiration from the standard layout that is used for wedding ceremonies, this layout is ideal for dance performances and interactive entertainment.
There is a long wide aisle down the centre and the tables are placed on either side of the aisle with buffet or serving tables behind them. This layout works equally as well for indoor and outdoor events.
Picture a wheel with spokes that converge at a circular hub in the center. The center is used for staging or a band and dance floor. The tables (or aisles between the tables) are arranged in rows in the same formation as the spokes of a room.
For ease of access by staff and performers, 10% of the wheel can be left open and free from tables or chairs.
In this example, the tables in the central core of the layout formed the spokes of the wheel. Other tables were placed around the core in a circular (wheel) format. Access stairs, staging and screens were placed on all sides of the wheel.
Here is how it call came together:
Used with stunning impact at Ignite Business Expo in Toronto 2 months ago, the stage configuration and lighting is similar to what is used for fashion shows.
Chairs or tables and chairs can be arranged around the catwalk and a variety of seating styles can be incorporated into the design.
