Cvent's Top 100 U.S. Meeting Hotels: #6 Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center Washington DC

Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center Washington DCLocated on the Potomac River, just minutes from our nation’s capital, Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center is the most recent Gaylord property to be built. And with 470,000 square feet of meeting space, it’s the largest combined hotel and convention center on the East Coast. “We evolve each time we build a hotel,” explains Kemp Gallineau, Chief Sales Officer. “We developed this property based on feedback from our customers, so being recognized as one of the top meeting hotels is phenomenal. It shows we’re doing things right.”

Doing things right, they are. Having been designed with meeting and convention attendees in mind, the hotel features everything you need under one roof: restaurants, shopping, networking areas, a business center and more. The view doesn’t hurt, either. When guests walk into the Gaylord National they’re greeted with a spectacular 18-story glass atrium that overlooks the Potomac River and Old Town Alexandria.

Accuracy is Key

With meetings and events accounting for about 80% of their business, it’s safe to say that the Gaylord puts a big emphasis on catering to meeting planners. “Our model is the meetings business,” explains Gallineau. “Every piece of business is unique, so you need to be on target with what the consumer wants.” He went on to explain that online RFP tools make it easier to connect with the customer. “Tools like the Cvent Supplier Network give planners a quick landscape of reality vs. budgetary needs, and give us the chance to spend more time learning the uniqueness of the customer.”

The Gaylord adheres to a 48-hours or-less rule in terms of responding to RFPs. Gallineau explains this response time by saying, “Speed kills on both sides. There is one thing to have speed, and another to have accuracy. We want to have both.”

Makes sense to us. And speaking from experience (Cvent held our Corporate Meetings Summit at the Gaylord National a few months ago), that 48-hour window is well worth the wait.
