Las Vegas has so successfully positioned itself as a site for conventions that few even remember when it only had one million square feet of convention space (it now has nine million). But last year, more than 4.9 million visitors were in Las Vegas to attend a convention, trade show or corporate conference. The CVA estimates that nearly 22,000 meetings were held in the city last year and anticipates that number will be even higher this year.
Which is why hotel meeting facilities are so expansive. For example, event space at the Sands Expo & Convention Center, which is part of The Venetian and Palazzo Resort, Hotel & Casinos, totals 1.2 million square feet. Despite its size, vp of sales Chandra Allison assures customers the conference team makes it easy to do business: “Our shows and entertainment are a great, unique experience for any size group, and our catering and conference management team can help navigate our property to provide the best attendee experience.”
The MGM Grand Hotel & Casino may feature more than 600,000 square feet of meeting space, but meetings as small as 15 attendees won’t feel overlooked, thanks to executive meeting managers that are dedicated to meetings from 15 to 300. “We provide groups with a multitude of experiences, regardless of size,” explains vp of sales Brian Keenan, whether it is an exclusive retreat for executives, a convention with thousands of attendees (room blocks of up to 4,000 rooms, no problem), an incentive trip or “just a reunion of friends.”
Open since late 2009, ARIA Resort & Casino is a feature of the mega CityCenter development. The property boasts 300,000 square feet of technologically advanced meeting space,” according to business development manager Armine Terzyan. “It’s one of the ways we transform the everyday meeting into an unforgettable one.”
Las Vegas started out as—and continues to be—an American original, beloved for its size, its brassiness and its in-your-face luxury. It’s where the action is, a place that’s always wall-to-wall people, because that’s where everyone wants to be.
