Groundbreaking for the Washington DC Marriott Marquis

Last Wednesday marked the historic groundbreaking of the Marriott family's newest addition: the Washington Marriott Marquis. This is an exciting development for the Washington DC Metropolitan area as the first Marquis in the city and only the 4th in the brand. Furthermore, with 1,175 guest rooms and 46 suites, the hotel will be able to accommodate the masses that frequent the adjacent Walter E. Reed Convention Center (which multiple hotels in the area combined, cannot).

The hotel will make its debut in 2014 as a 4 star hotel spanning an entire city block. An enormous atrium skylight will connect the Convention Center to the Marquis which will be constructed of mostly glass and masonry.

Its Penn Quarter location will allow guests access to both the yellow and green lines of the metrorail system at the Mt. Vernon station. This downtown district is bright and vibrant, a competitive location for conferences and meetings large in size.

The Washington DC Marriott Marquis will boast a 6,000-square-foot fitness center, more than 100,000 square feet of function space - including a rooftop terrace and 2 ballrooms - a grand atrium lobby and 5 retail and restaurant outlets. Sounds luxurious, right? This is all in addition to a concierge floor and lounge, Marriott's signature bedding, elegantly appointed bathrooms and Marriott's world-renowned service.
