Starwood to open 70-80 Hotels in 2011

SheratonStarwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. announced last week its plans to open 70-80 hotels this year. Some new builds and some conversions, 60% of these properties will be in the upscale luxury segment. This will especially excite you Meeting Planners with International scopes, as the majority of these hotels will be popping up outside of North America, mostly in Asia Pacific. In fact, 30% will crop in North America with the 70% bulk in Asia Pacific.

The demand for luxury hotels will support Starwood's expansion. Supposedly the most robust demand comes from greater China where openings will include 19 Sheraton hotels, 10 Westin Hotels, 2 St. Regis hotels and 2 Luxury Collection Hotels. The company anticipates 115 hotels in China by 2012, up from their current 70.

If you aren't already familiar with Starwood's collection, they offer quite the variety for your meeting needs. W Hotels are hip and trendy and perfect for appealing to a younger crowd of participants. Sheraton's are budget-friendly, common, and offer a wealth of meeting space. Westin's are a hotel leader in bedding with their heavenly bedding, providing your executives with a comfortable night's sleep. St. Regis offers top of the line luxury meeting space and several destination resorts. Others in their collection include Aloft, Luxury Collection, La Meridien and Four Points by Sheraton.
