Change in Plans for New Austin Marriott

When it was time for us to leave the Big City and move away from our Nation’s Capital, one of the cities we considered was Austin, Texas. It’s a great town, with great outdoor activities, a surprising amount of water,JW Marriott friendly people always trying to “Keep Austin Weird” and, of course, the Bridge Bats.

To add to the city’s attractiveness as a meeting destination is the new JW Marriott. It was originally planned to be a Marriott Marquis and will now be part of that luxury brand.

Groundbreaking for the $300-million, 1,003-room venue is scheduled for June 2012, with a projected completion around January 2015, according to the developer, White Lodging Services Corporation.

In order to make the hotel, and the city, a more national meeting destination, the hotel will include over 110,000 square feet of meeting space.

It almost makes me wish we lived in Austin.
