Plan Meetings That Give Back to Your Community with Starwood and Coca-Cola

Philanthropic MeetingsCorporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a hot topic across all industries right now, but particularly in the event planning community. While accusations and cynicism have been unfairly directed towards the industry amidst the throes of the recession over the past couple years, planners have fought hard to prove that meetings aren’t just about wining and dining overpaid executives. They’ve made a solid case that meetings are unquestionably good for business. But, they’re also demonstrating that, in fact, meetings and events can be a great way to mobilize attendees to give back to local communities.

In light of this trend, Starwood Hotels & Resorts announced yesterday that they have teamed up with Coca-Cola to offer planners an assortment of on-site, philanthropic specialty events. The On-Site Specialty Events program offers a selection of 20+ team-building activities available at 100 Starwood hotels across the United States. Among these activities, planners can choose from several socially-conscious themed events, which all feature Coca-Cola beverage solutions. A few examples of these events include:
  • Literacy Builders - To give the gift of reading to children, groups of 25-200 people, work in teams to build and stock bookcases and participate in a book drive to benefit a local charity for kids.
  • Community HeART - Community HeART encourages creativity and teamwork among attendees while they construct a beautiful piece of art to give to a local organization. Designed for groups of up to 250, this event allows teams to work together to complete a beautiful mural - no artistic skill needed.
  • Eco-sino - "The Green Casino" is a themed event ideal for groups of 50 people or more. Teams participate in casino table games and eco-activity stations to win a GET GREEN kit that will be donated to the local community. The kit contains items that will help beneficiary families have greener homes.
  • Go Green Racing -Designed for groups of 25-200 people, Go Green Racing tasks teams with building miniature racing vehicles - solar cars and racing cars - and to work together while learning about sustainability.
Not only are these philanthropic offerings a great way for organizations to give back to the community, but they can also provide a more meaningful and rewarding event experience for your attendees. As the planner, Starwood also helps take the burden off your back of trying to coordinate and budget CSR activities. Most of the events are two hours or less and hosted in the hotel, which limits the need for external resources and extensive planning.

So, give your guests a break from quarterly sales projections and strategy sessions to do something meaningful for your community! To search for participating Sheraton hotels and other Starwood properties, visit the Cvent Supplier Network, and mention the On-Site Specialty Events in your RFP.
