Cvent Europe Recognised as Centre of Excellence in Wellbeing

Did you know the average person working in Britain spends 3,507 days at work during their career? This totals around 84,00 hours over the course of a lifetime, which doesn’t include the 14,053 hours travelling to and from work. With all that time spent dedicated to working life, it seems only natural to want to find a place to work where you can enjoy the hours you spend there. A positive working environment encourages employee engagement, retention and wellbeing at work and helps employees to thrive and be at their best.

It’s for this reason we are so pleased to be recognised by Great Place to Work® as a centre of Excellence in Wellbeing. The Wellbeing recognition was awarded following an external survey of Cvent Europe employees. The questions and responses covered 6 keys areas:

  • Work environment
  • Mental and physical health
  • Financial security
  • Interpersonal relationships
  • Work-Life balance
  • Fulfilment (autonomy, meaning and personal growth)

We tackle struggles together and are free to make suggestions, so improvements are never far away.

Why is this important?

As part of our mission to create a sustainable event and hospitality industry, it’s essential for us to work on creating an environment that is not only fun to work in, but also looks after our employees. The wellbeing of those that work at Cvent is one of our most important company objectives, as it should be for all organisations across the globe.

According to a 2019 survey, the three main causes of work-related poor mental health are…

  • too much pressure
  • workload impacting on the ability to take leave (leavism) and
  • a lack of support

Employee mental health is also affected by negative work relationships, and people not feeling able to trust their managers.

Looking at the statistics above about just how much time people spend at work, it is not just a nice thing to do to take care of employees. Instead, it is the duty and responsibility of employers to take care of the financial, mental and physical wellbeing of the employees that have chosen to dedicate some much of their life to their employer.

Key Reasons for this Recognition

Based on employee responses to 17 varying statements around wellbeing, an organisation needs an average score of 75% or higher to be recognised as one that demonstrates excellence in wellbeing.

Cvent scored 82%, rating highly in areas such as Interpersonal Relationships (averaging 92%) and Work Environment (averaging 88%).

When commenting on the Wellbeing Model that determines the overall score, Great Place to Work ® remarks “Our Wellbeing Model takes this holistic view, breaking the concept of employee wellbeing down into six key dimensions. Distinct in themselves but strongly interconnected, these areas turn smoothly together. But, if any ‘cog’ is out of kilter, it will not only impact adjoining cogs but risk hampering the whole mechanism.”

A phrase originated by Peter Drucker and made famous by Mark Fields, President at Ford, many studies have shown that there is indeed a direct correlation between a healthy, productive culture and a company’s bottom line.

Account Management Team Lead Michael Newton comments “I’ve never worked at an organisation that has such a mix of people, such a mix of cultures”. The culture at Cvent is one of the best in the industry and helps the team provide a great service to Cvent clients. Cventers work with people every day in the events and hospitality industry to provide support to help them deliver extraordinary results.

The level of service Cventers provide is achieved by giving them the support they need to feel like they can do their job well. This includes regular training, opportunities to provide feedback, regular company-wide communication in various formats (from face-to-face to Slack) and providing the right equipment and IT systems. If a Cventer identifies a system they can use to improve a process, there is a clear way for them to submit this request and have the software approved for company use. If they think something can be done better, they are given the opportunity to improve it.

We are encouraged to be intrapreneurs meaning Cventers can use entrepreneurial skills to achieve greater success within our area of the business.  Manager of onsite solutions, Rachel Johnston says, “My whole department started in the UK because I brought it up to my manager that I wanted to start this department in the UK, and being able to have that openness with senior management is pretty amazing”
