Masterminded by Abu Dhabi's Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), Saadiyat Island is taking shape 500 meters off the coast of Abu Dhabi. It will house iconic venues in themed districts:
1. Manarat Al Saadiyat - Saadiyat Cultural District
Saadiyat Cultural District is the future home of 5 arts venues:
- Guggenheim Abu Dhabi
When it opens in 2017, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will showcase global contemporary art and culture with exhibits revealing the interconnections works of art around the world. The art of the United Arab Emirates and other Middle Eastern countries will also be showcased.
- Louvre Abu Dhabi
Slated to open in 2015, Louvre Abu Dhabi will explore the evolution of art through the ages in various cultures. The chronological arrangement of the works of art, will allow visitors to trace the evolution of art around the world simultaneously.
The geometric lace dome was inspired by palm leaves. A water network inspired by traditional Middle Eastern falaj water systems will flow throughout the museum.
- Abu Dhabi Maritime Museum
Maritime Museum will celebrate the marine tradition of the United Arab Emirates and trace its sea-faring history. The design is inspired by the sail of a traditional Arabian dhow.
- Performing Arts Centre
This multi-purpose centre will showcase music, drama, dance, and opera. Event venues will include concert halls, theatres and experimental spaces. The architecture will reflect "the fluidity of motion." The total capacity will be 6,300.

2. Saadiyat Marina
Saadiyat Marina is the island's commercial area with office buildings, business hotels, waterfront restaurants and also have berthing facilities for 1,000 boats.
3. Saadiyat Lagoons
Saadiyat Lagoons is the area with the island's canal and lagoon network. Residences will be built along this network.
4. Saadiyat Reserve
Saadiyat Reserve will preserve the island's natural mangroves and wetlands.
