What makes a great spring destination? The return of mild temperatures, a picture perfect setting created by blossoms and flowering plants, the opportunity to explore arts and culture, and great shopping. Here are some of my favorite dream destinations for corporate events in the spring.
The popular song got it right...there is no place like Paris in the spring. Cherry and apple blossoms are in bloom. Fashion week is a few weeks before Spring but it may appeal to some team members. With the return of the warmer weather, visitors can comfortably explore parks and gardens. (Monet's gardens at Giverny are not to be missed). Be sure to pack your umbrella and rain gear. In May, Paris participates in the global Museum Night during which museums stay open late and admission is free. Athletic members of your team will welcome an opportunity to participate in the annual Paris Marathon that takes place in May every year.
Between the annual Easter Parade on Fifth Avenue in which New Yorkers come out in their spring finest, the cherry blossom festival at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, the Tribeca Film Festival in April, and the Museum Mile Festival in June when the museums on Fifth Avenue throw open their doors for free and host an incredible block party, New York City is a great place to welcome spring.
With temples, shrines and beautiful gardens, Kyoto is a beautiful place to usher in spring, especially when the Sakura are in bloom. There are a number of Spring festivals. In early March for Hina Matsuri (girl's day), local residents bring out hina ningyo doll sets and wear traditional Heian period costumes when they visit the Ichihime Shrine. In April, Miyako-Odoriin, a traditional Maiko (apprentice geisha) dance festival in Kyoto's Gion district, showcases traditional Japanese dance. If you're lucky, you may even be able to catch a Noh play. The first time I was in Kyoto during the spring, a huge Noh stage was being constructed at a temple. On boy's day, In May, for musha-ningyo,boy's day, boys fly kites and warrior style dolls in Edo period costumes are brought out.
