Most likely a visit to the Ottawa Convention Center today would require a hardhat and possibly steel-toed shoes. Come April 2011, however, meeting planners will experience something new, something different for the Capital City.
Located in the easily walkable downtown, the new 192,000-square-foot facility includes an all-embracing glass facade with views of Parliament Hill, the Rideau Canal World Heritage Site and the National Arts Centre. It is also steps away from the ByWard Market shopping and restaurant district.
Inside, each of the four levels offers something unique. Level 1 features an open and inviting outdoor plaza and a Lobby/Hall with a picturesque view of the Rideau Canal and downtown. As you enter view the Log's End Wall - a tribute to Ottawa's historic roots in the lumber industry - that towers through all four levels of the facility.
Level 2, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, offers view of the Canal and historic Parliament Hill. This level also bridges to the 495-room Westin Ottawa Hotel and the Rideau Centre Shops, with 180 stores.
Level 3 is the Centre's most spacious, combining the city's largest room with generous pre-function space for hosting large conventions, conferences, meetings, trade and consumer shows and performances.
Level 4 houses what many believe will become the Capital's hallmark ballroom - an 21,300-square-foot ballroom.
What once was a mere 74,000 square feet will now house more than 27 meeting rooms, banquet space for up to 4,600, a multi-purpose space with 56,000 square feet of usable area and a ballroom with over 21,000 square feet of space.
The Centre also hopes to open with a LEED Silver Certification. Learn more about Ottawa in the Cvent Destination Guide.
